About
Fresh Off is a blog, written by a FOB, a fresh off the boat. I don’t purport to speak for all foreign immigrants, not even the ones from Hong Kong, because I’m not even an immigrant, but a student and job-seeker, now in New York City. Because I speak fluent English and have an uncanny ability to absorb American culture, people are often surprised I didn’t go to school here until college. It’s not really a point of pride, it’s just how I am. So it’s always fun when my friends call me a FOB, because they know I act totally unlike one, and they know that I know that. With that said, don’t laugh at FOBs. Just because they don’t speak English well, or wear funny clothes, and don’t laugh with Tina Fey, doesn’t mean they are exactly like that inside. So it goes to say, even though I don’t act like a FOB, inside I really am one. Even in Hong Kong. It’s just that I’m fresh off the boat everywhere I go.
And yeah, this blog is fresh off the press, a pun on many of the facets of my life.
